I told my 13 year-old ethics students -- who are, by and large, fantastic -- that I'd no longer glare at them if they were misbehaving in class, since I believe it gives the wrong sort of motivation for them to behave, viz. to avoid a glare and the unpleasant attitude that is presumed to lie behind it. Instead, we instituted a keyword, "pineapple", that is short for, "you are acting inappopriately, and should desist for the simple reason that it is inappropriate."
